Handfasting oaths
Within a cast circle Priestess gives a speech about love, she introduces the participants and speaks a little of the significance of the ritual. The ceremony then begins:
Priestess:
"_____________ and ________________ have decreed that upon this day, they shall begin their new lives as a partnership."
"_______________, step forward. With what intentions do you seek this handfasting?" (answers)
"________________, step forward. With what intentions do you seek this handfasting?" (answers)
"____________, knowing _________'s intentions, do you still wish this rite to occur?" (answers)
"____________, knowing _________,'s intentions, do you still wish this rite to occur?" (answers)
Priestess gathers their hands and unites them:
"____________ and ___________ have prepared their own handfasting oaths." (the oaths are recited.)
"___________, do you wish to be handfasted to _______, for as long as love shall last?" (answer)
"__________, do you wish to be handfasted to ________, for as long as love shall last?" (answer)
(Hands wrapped with cords, which are intertwined.)
"May these cords bind your hands as your vows bind your hearts, and may your love withstand the storms of human nature, and, being tempered, create a greater bond."
"________ and ________ are one before the Lord and Lady,
Blessed they be on this merry day!
Gather round, friends and family,
And embrace this partnership,
Embraced before us by heaven and Earth!
May love last long!
