JERSEY - 2001

Well this is what you have all been waiting for - hope it was worth the wait!!

As you all know by now, me and Claire set off for Jersey on Thursday 30th August. Considering I was a bag of nerves before we even set off you can imagine what state I was in when I saw the plane with it's propellers. To make things worse I had been seated right by the darn things. OK so I'm a coward - no law against it.

And you wonder why I freaked?
Wonder no more!!

We dumped our stuff off at the hotel and went for a wander - firstly to pick up our tickets from the Box Office and secondly for me to raid LUSH for all their fantastic smellies. We found the theatre no problem but what we had forgotten is the matinee would have been starting in a couple a couple of hours. Not realizing this we proceeded to the shops where I spent an absolute fortune - Oh so what I'm on holiday!! I hate shopping normally but this place was cool for it's shops. We did make it back to the theatre to meet Jonathon on his way back in. I gave him your questions ladies not ever expecting to see them again!! Sorry but I couldn't be bothered getting the camera out for reasons I won't go into.

There were a couple of ladies there we knew and they warned us our tickets would probably not be on the front row as they had changed the seating plan so we had to take them back into the theatre and get them changed. In another stupid moment we only bought tickets for the Friday show as well - well they were front row again. That night we did a bit more exploring then went back to this really nice hotel and hit the duty free!! Very nice!

Friday we hit the beach - well two of them to be exact. The first one was way too windy and it was cloudy so it was also pretty cold. Told you the crap weather would follow me anywhere I chose to go. And I was right! The second beach was really nice and if I go back there again that's where I will stay. We couldn't stay too long as we had to get back to town and change for the evening. Once again I took loads of stuff with me and ended up in jeans. Never, I hear you say!! I could have stuffed more of the LUSH stuff in my suitcase if I hadn't taken all that stuff - damn it!

Well we made it back to the theatre just after Jon so we didn't see him before the show. The show was a laugh. Billy Boyle was off so Tony Howes played his part and was absolutely fantastic. Don't think I've ever laughed so much. My eyes were killing me though and I was convinced it was the contact lenses. Silly sod that I am hadn't realised the hay fever was back in full force with the gorgeous flowers all over the island. I got out of theatre and took them out as fast as I could. Talk about blind as a bat!! Lucky you got a photo at all!!

To be honest, Jon looked totally shattered - most likely the party the night before. Didn't think to ask him if he went but I should say so judging by the state of him! At least there were only two more shows to go - and we were at them both (so much for only seeing one show - well it was front row!!)

On the Saturday the weather changed and it was so hot - I hit the shops again first thing then went off to soak up a bit of the sun I had come over for. All this summer I've done really well but get out to Jersey and what do I get - strap marks - not amused. Sunbed here I come! Well I have only got nine weeks before I fly out to Texas.

I could only stand it for so long so we went off back to the hotel to get changed and down a few alcoholic beverages.  We met Jonathon on his way into the theatre and took another photo - bet he's sick of seeing the cameras this tour. I know I would be. Well it's all for a good cause - you guys!! LOL!!

As you can see he's not spent all month working and it looks like it's been pretty decent weather out there as well. Until I arrived of course. I won't mention the surf board in the back of the car -oops I just did!! I've decided I don't feel sorry for him any more.

We spent a few minutes chatting by the car after the first show. Jon gave us a bottle of wine so we went off to get something to eat and went back to the hotel to top up on the old alcohol. I had to be careful as I love wine but it hates the site of me and there was no way I wanted a lousy hangover for our last day in Jersey.

I forgot to mention the little incident BEFORE the first show. Jon and Tony had gone off for a chat and on their way back we noticed a policeman walking down in front of them. Toni (one of the ladies I spoke about) decided to ask him for a favour - take a look!!

The poor guy couldn't stop grinning. Bet it's the most excitement he's had all year over there.

A police escort! Do they think they are THAT famous?

If feel like sending a copy of this over to the police station in Jersey. I was quite hoping he'd get his handcuffs out but never mind.

Look at the state of Tony's shirt. He had it buttoned the wrong way and couldn't have cared less. That man is a gem!

Before we left Jonathon that afternoon he gave me the questions sheet back with all his answers so here goes!!

Carolyn asks - When are you most at peace?
When I'm sitting by or actually in the sea. I love surfing particularly but just sitting by the water makes me feel so content.

How do you feel before and after your very first performance?
Proud! Preparation is the secret of success and unless I get a cold or other illness I usually achieve my goal.

Do you do anything special to prepare yourself for a performance?
Yes - stretch - stomach exercises - singing exercises and diction work. A lot!

Do you like Blue-eyed brunettes? (knew I couldn't stay serious for long)
God's greatest gift to man was woman! Brunettes, Blondes, Red Heads - and a good brain.

Kathy asks - Do you have a favourite character you have portrayed?
Yes, Heathcliffe in Wuthering Heights - and he's in love with Cathy!

Do you prefer playing a straight role, comedian or the evil characters?
A bit of all of them. It makes for a varied life and career.

How cold was it in Arizona when you were filming in the middle of the night and was it worth it?
Freezing - 5 degrees centigrade but worth every single moment. The proudest moment in my career.

Do you like beef jerky?
I've never liked jerks - particularly beefy ones!!

Well there you have it ladies - I didn't know how Jon would react when I handed him that paper - all I can say is - what a sport
