04/27/06 - UPDATE ON NEW RUSH CD - The 3 members gathered together for the first time since the individual writing began. They have 5 structured songs complete already! Here is a bit taken from
NeilPeart.net...
We gathered before the fire in the living room and started listening. As the songs played out, the response we all shared was a sense of clarity — for Alex and Geddy, playing the songs for me that first time threw their strengths and
weaknesses into sharp contrast, and they kept saying things like, “I know what we have to do here.” Same for me, lyrically — I was very gratified to hear parts that worked, saying “Yeah” when I heard Geddy sing a line just perfectly,
while also knowing right away what I could improve upon.
There were five song sketches — guitar, vocals, and drum machine — and I liked them all. I also noticed those songs already seemed to have a sort of unity, a stylistic approach of chord structures, rhythms, and vocal delivery that I
could only describe as “spiritual.” I’ll say no more about that aspect until we get farther into it, but it was wonderful that after thirty years of working together, we could still find different paths to explore together.
They plan to spend the month of May finishing up the writing and arranging in a Toronto studio.

10/16/05 - INFO ON NEIL PEART'S NEW DRUM DVD! -
The Hudson Music web site has posted more information regarding RUSH drummer
Neil Peart's new instructional DVD, "Anatomy of a Drum Solo". The set
presents newly-recorded, in-studio footage of Neil discussing, in detail,
his approach to soloing. Using a solo recorded in September, 2004 in
Frankfurt, Germany, as a framework, Neil talks about each segment of this
nine-minute tour de force that is a feature of each RUSH performance. He
describes the inspiration and the conceptual thinking behind each part of
the solo and discusses, and often demonstrates, the technique necessary for
playing that segment. Also included are two "explorations" - completely
improvised workouts at the drums, each over thirty-minutes long; a
never-before-released solo recorded in Hamburg, Germany in September, 2004
("Ich Bin Ein Hamburger"); "O Baterista", Neil's Grammy award-nominated solo
(previously released on the "Rush in Rio" DVD); two full RUSH performances
from Frankfurt 2004, all shot from the perspective of the drum cameras;
interviews with Lorne Wheaton, Neil's drum tech, and Paul Northfield, RUSH
co-producer and engineer; a full-color booklet, a photo gallery and more.
RUSH fanatics may be especially excited to hear that the special features
will include home footage of J.R. FLOOD (one of Neil's first bands), circa

9/02/05 - NEW RUSH R30 DVD COMING - This just in from Rush.com...
Rush will be releasing the highly anticipated R30 DVD in late fall
2005. R30 will feature the sold out concert that Rush played in
Frankfurt, Germany in October 2004 during their 30th Anniversary tour.
7/02/05 - NEW NEIL PEART BOOK & INSTRUCTIONAL DVD VIDEO! -
New Book: "As of July 1st, 2005, I have just finished the first
draft of a book about the R30 tour, with the unwieldy title of
ROADSHOW: Landscape With Drums, A Concert Tour By Motorcycle. (Hey,
I just want the title to tell what it's about!) The book is
constructed around the 57 shows we did on that tour - all across the
U.S., a couple in Canada, and 14 in Europe - plus the 20,000 miles
of motorcycling I did between those shows, but it inevitably
stretches out into the world around me. I'll say no more about it
yet, but judging by my past books, which have taken about 14 months
to complete, I've got another six or eight months of work to do yet.
The 'memory work' was the most urgent thing, as I felt kind of
pressured to get the first draft down - didn't want to forget
anything - and now begins the difficult, but pleasurable, process of
making it all 'nice.'"
New Instructional DVD: "In mid-July, I will start the filming of a
new instructional DVD, this one to focus on the subject of drum
soloing. The working title is Anatomy of a Drum Solo. It will be
based around an intricately-filmed solo from R30, plus the Grammy-
losing '"O Baterista!' from Rush in Rio, and will include a wide
variety of other 'ghosts of solos past.' All that, and me talking
about it all. (Maybe that's a better title, 'Ellwood Explains It
All.')" - Neil Peart
4/22/05 - ALEX & SON JUSTIN OFFER PLEA - John Henderson of the Naples Daily News has issued the following report:
The lead guitarist for the rock group RUSH and his son accepted plea agreements on Thursday morning in which they will serve no jail time on charges related to a New Year's Eve 2003 altercation with Collier County Sheriff's deputies.
Alex Zivojinovich, known on stage as Alex Lifeson, and his son Justin, will serve 12 months probation and pay court costs as part of the agreement.
The state made the offer a day after a judge reduced the third-degree felony charge that Justin was facing down to a misdemeanor charge. The felony could have resulted in him serving five years in prison.
The agreement calls for Alex and Justin to plead no contest to a single misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest without violence. Adjudication is being withheld, meaning there will not be a formal conviction on their records if probation is successfully completed.
Zivojinovich and his son were at the bash at the Ritz-Carlton, Naples hotel ringing in New Year's Eve 2004 when the altercation with deputies occurred.
Justin and his friends agitated hotel security when they got up on the platform where the house band was taking a break. Security called deputies, who ended up escorting Justin out of the hotel. A deputy testified that he felt threatened as he was escorting Justin out of the hotel when Justin broke one of his arms free from a grip deputies had behind his back.
Senior Circuit Judge Charles T. Carlton ruled Wednesday that this act was not enough for the third-degree resisting arrest with "violence" charge to stand. Prosecutors said the case against Alex involved many of the same witnesses, which is why they decided to offer the plea.

8/24/04 - NEW RUSH BIOGRAPHY! - Written by Martin Popoff, who was a special guest speaker at this years Toronto RushCon, the 236 page book is titled "Contents Under Pressure".
The book celebrates the 30th anniversary of Canada's beloved Rush, the hard-hitting, progressive rock band known for such classics as "Working Man," "Closer to the Heart," "The Spirit of Radio," "Tom Sawyer," "New World Man," "Roll the Bones" and "Ghost Rider."
In original interviews with Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart, author Martin Popoff considers each of Rush's albums and tours. He elicits fresh insights on the writing and recording process, as well as musings on the grinds and glories of touring.
Along the way, Popoff examines, with the band, nearly every song in the band's vast catalogue. This book also features 270 photos by official band photographer Andrew MacNaughtan and others - candid, rare, and of utmost quality, they help make
Contents Under Pressure an essential piece of Rush history."
Ordering info can be found at Amazon.com.
7/24/04 - 37 STRAIGHT HOURS OF RUSH! - Da Boneyard presents 420 Rush songs in a row, including a new track each

is the worst sounding Rush CD of all. We can only hope that a remaster is enough to cure the muddy, distorted problems apparent throughout.

Paint It Black, at the Toronto SARS benefit rock festival last summer.

- UPDATE FROM GEDDY LEE! -
Greetings and salutations, I thought it was time to check in here and deliver an update of
recent goings on for all of you who have been dropping into this site regularly. As most
RUSH fans may now know we have indeed and at long last finished our latest project Vapor
Trails. This concludes the single longest recording session any of us have ever been
involved in. Why did it take so long you may ask? Tough question. Well, all I can say is
that after all the personal difficulties, individual musical experiments and resultant
soul searching that has gone down in the world of RUSH in the last 6 years, we needed a
profound amount of time to reach a state of interaction with each other that would enable
us to produce something we felt was fresh and had the kind of passionate energy worthy of
signing our names to. In simple... it took us a while to "get it goin' on" !
There is also the theory that the longer you spend on a project, the harder it becomes to
finish. What this means, in application, is that you have become so intimate with the
material that the details stop being details, and become as important to you as any of the
more fundamental parts of the song. This is commonly referred to as "loss of
objectivity". But most musicians simply justify this by saying "God is in the
details". There is another thing that happens to me when I'm making a record which
makes it tough to finish. That is the fact that sometimes I have such a complete image in
my head of what each song should sound like, that it becomes very difficult for me to
settle for anything less. So you push and push, and try to make reality match this
particular "vision" of the song and all the while you are just slowly driving
yourself nuts by degrees, because you start to realize that what you are trying to
accomplish is almost impossible and what you are really after may not be the best thing
for the song anyway... Just simply YOUR version of what is best for the song. And when the
other guys in the band feel the same way, that's when you need a producer. Or a therapist
!! Or better still, a good glass of wine!! This is commonly referred to as "loss of
perspective". (see- Working at Perfekt) Add a few technical glitches along the way
and the fact that there is about 68 minutes of music, making this c.d. by far the longest
RUSH collection we have ever produced, and you have a project that took over a year to
create. But after all is said and done, I think it turned out (as the Brits like to say)
"a bit of awlright". We, of course, hope you agree. In any event that's my story
and I'm sticking to it. In other developments, I'm happy and thankful to report that My
Favourite Headache continues to roll along making new friends with a slow, steady pace. It
is a piece of work that I remain very proud of and I look forward for a time that I can
continue that avenue of expression, and my collaboration with Ben Mink and perhaps even
one day "take it on the road".
Speaking of the road, most of you may now be aware of the fact that we will soon be
embarking on our first tour since 1997. We are in the middle of planning this out as we
speak, so I can't really tell you much about what to expect yet, other than the fact that,
once again, we are planning a rather long show and we hope to play some older songs that
you haven't heard in a while (if ever) as well as a bunch of new ones.
We can't go everywhere, of course, but we'll give it a shot and I hope that we will indeed
meet somewhere "out there" close to where you live. Until then, I guess that's
it for now.
Cheers and thanks for your continuing interest and support!
Geddy

Great News! - It's official! The members of Rush have gotten together for writing sessions
in their private studios in Toronto as of last week. Geddy confirmed this in an interview.
Neil is back in town from California. Spirits are high and the new material should be
different from anything else they've done. Look forward to a new release, most likely
around December or early next year. It's been almost 5 years since the release of their
last studio album, Test For Echo.

- Alex To Produce Driver's First Album! - Driver, formerly known as Strangers With Candy,
is working on their first release after winning an MTV band contest. Alex Lifeson came to
work with the band and agreed to produce their new album, according to Aaron Fincke.
"We wanted a player, rather than just a standard producer," said Fincke. The
band expects to "sell a couple hundred thousand more copies" of their album
because of Lifeson's reputation as a musician and performer. "We can only do so much
with our songs, but he helped to clean up all of them." After finishing in the
Massachusetts studios, Driver will head to Toronto to mix the album. If everything stays
on schedule, the album should be complete by Dec. 23. Fincke said he expects that the
album, which should have 12 songs, will then be released sometime during the spring.
